Our Mission:

Translating to Save a Language

Tibetan Translation & Research Institute was founded so as to usher in a renaissance in modern Tibetan translation.

Founders:

Tenzin Rigsang

I started, on my own initiative, focusing on translating His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s books in 2007. Later, with Geshe Thupten Jinpa’s recommendation, I had the opportunity to translate a few books for Mind and Life Institute. These books are based on the dialogue between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and scientists. I also had the opportunity to translate Mind in the Balance by Allan Wallace into the Tibetan language at its author’s personal request.

In 2015, I, along with Geshe Lungtok Gedun, founded Tibetan Translation & Research Institute, with blessings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and financial supports from the Dalai Lama Trust. I act as the general editor of Tibetan Translation & Research Institute, overseeing all its projects.

My translation works include:

  1. The Universe in a Single Atom: How Science and Spirituality can Serve Our World
  2. Mind and Life: Discussions with the Dalai Lama on the Nature of Reality

Geshe Lungtok Gedun

I completed my Buddhist studies and earned Geshe Degree in 2018, at Gaden Jangtse monastery, in South India.

While I was studying for my Geshe degree, I served as a teacher at Gaden Jangtse Thosam Norling School, teaching for more than seven years. I was also its director for over two years and had been the chief editor of a series of Tibetan texts for the school.

In 2015, I, along with Mr. Tenzin Rigsang, launched a project of translating the works of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and systematically translating important books into the Tibetan language. I cofounded the Tibetan Translation & Research Institute in 2015, with the full support from the Dalai Lama Trust.

I act as the director of the Institute, in charge of administration and fundraising for its physical construction as well as its future financial management.
